If You Were My Size…

I’m only training one or two days a week, because my shoulder still gets tweaked a bit.  I’ll train and then give it about three or four days to recover.  I’m trying to train smart, but training smart is boring.  For instance, during the warmup the instructor looked at me and said, “You won’t be able to do this next drill.” (I think he’s been reading my blog, [curse word]!  Now he knows all of my dirty little secrets… Do I have dirty little secrets?  Well if I did he would know them…)  Anyway, it was fireman carries.  My partner carried me down the floor and back.  The whole way, I was trying to work the logistics of it out, figuring in the bum shoulder and size disparity.  The safety of my partner won out.  Torturing and injuring myself is one thing, but being stupid and hurting my partner is something I can’t do.  Needless to say, I didn’t try. 😦

I had a different, smaller partner for the rest of the class.  (He was still bigger than me.)  He has a lot of experience rolling with bigger guys, which he shared with me!  Yeah!  He was able to give me “short people” tips here and there.  It was a relief to know that some of the guys have had the same problems I have.  It was a bigger relief to learn how to adjust for them. 😉

I only rolled once, but it was a good roll.  My partner was very technical and fast.  I’m fast too.  It was like the games Twister and Chess had been merged into one and then the manufacturers added a double dose of Monster energy drink into the mix.  Twischesster Monster?  I tapped a lot to “Oh crap, that might hurt my shoulder”.  The crazy thing is, I was in positions that I had put myself in.  *Shakes head at self*  Twischesster Monster ended and my partner told me, “You have a great spider guard, If you were my size you would have killed me!”  Hmm, if I were his size… Not old… Not crippled… I would be a Twischester Monster Master. 😉
